Description

Necrotizing enterocolitis is a fatal gastrointestinal disease that primarily affects pre-term neonates. The condition is characterized by weakened inetstinal tissues due to lack of blood flow. There are only a handful of familial cases of enterocolitis reported in literature.

Lebanon

Mégarbané and Sayad (2007) described a Lebanese consanguineous family in which three siblings were affected with a severe early and lethal form of enterocolitis. All affected patients were born at term, and presented with delayed meconial emission, enterocolitis following milk introduction and early death.
