The DCLK2 gene encodes a protein belonging to the protein kinase superfamily. While its protein kinase activity is carried out by its C-terminal serine/threonine protein kinase domain, its two N-terminal doublecortin domains bind microtubules and regulate their polymerization. In between these two domains lies a serine/proline rich domain that is responsible for the mediation of several protein-protein interactions.
Recent studies in humans have found a link between the DCLK2 gene and disorders such as epilepsy and ADHD.
