Description

Spontaneously remitting inflammatory condition of the thyroid gland, characterized by fever; muscle weakness; sore throat; severe thyroid pain; and an enlarged damaged gland containing giant cells. The disease frequently follows a viral infection. [MeSH 2021]

Zein et al. 2007 reported on 3 siblings, 1 brother and 2 sisters, who developed subacute thyroiditis during an 18-month period. All 3 siblings tested positive for HLA-B35.
