8th Pan Arab Human Genetics Conference plans to host a public lecture by Prof. Rana Dajani
The Center for Arab Genomics Studies (CAGS), a division of the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, has announced the hosting of a public lecture by Dr. Rana Al-Dajani entitled: “To see what everyone sees but think what no one has thought”. The lecture will be a part of the activities of the 8th Pan Arab Human Genetics Conference (PAHGC), which will be held from 19the to 20th January 2020 at the Roda Al Bustan Hotel - Dubai.
Dr. Mahmoud Taleb Al-Ali,  Director of CAGS and the Chairperson of the Scientific Committee of the conference, said, "We are very glad to be organizing this public lecture on the sidelines of the 8th Pan Arab Human Genetics Conference. I believe that these sorts of lectures are vital for advancing knowledge, stimulating debate and initiating connections. We aim to make this the first in a series of public lectures aimed at popularising the field of human genetics and genomics and we are extremely fortunate to have someone as charismatic and dynamic as Prof. Rana Dajani starting this series off."
“The conference allows researchers and geneticists from within the Arab World not only to network and forge collaborations with each other, but also to review and exchange information with the broader international community. It also provides constructive cooperation between the various scientists in the field of human genetics in the Arab world, which ultimately helps to promote scientific research in the Arab world”, he added.
On his part HE Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Award for Medical Sciences conveyed his sincere thanks and gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and the Patron of the Award for his consistent follow-up and keenness to support the events of this major scientific forum.
He also stressed that the Conference over the past seven sessions has become a unique platform for exchanging experiences between specialists in the field of human genetics.
“The Award has supported CAGS since its establishment in 2003 in all its activities, according to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to keep up with the progress made in the health field and to use modern technologies in order to enhance the delivery of information to workers in the medical sector within the framework of working to improve community services in the health aspect”, he added
It is worth mention that the theme of the conference in its 8th edition is “clinical Genomics”, and the main topics to be discussed in the conference include, next generation sequencing, neurodevelopmental disorders, metabolic disorders, dysmorphology, as well as population genomics and human disorders.
The conference will be preceded by a 2-day workshop on genomic data analysis for gene discovery and variant interpretation. This workshop is being organized by CAGS in association with the European School of Genetic Medicine, and will take place at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Science. The course will see instructors from around the world offering hands on training to a limited number of genetics and genomics professionals working in human genetics within the research or clinical diagnostic setting.
