Abu Dhabi University organized a seminar on the preventive aspects of genetic disorders in the UAE and the Arab world and the challenges posed by these diseases. Delivered a lecture seminar by Dr. Ghazi destruction, assistant director of the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies. He pointed out that Ben Rue Abu Dhabi University is keen on the selection of topics to be discussed at the cultural season with care in order to put forward and address the issues affecting the community and provide details and listen to the answers of experts and specialists.

Dr. Ghazi stressed the importance of spreading awareness of genetic diseases among members of society, adding that the latest research conducted in this area has shown that there are 240 different kinds of genetic diseases in the United Arab Emirates, which is not limited to a certain region or country, and the names and percentages These genetic diseases vary from one place to another.

Abizaid as Dr. Ghazi said that international reports about genetic diseases showed that the first fifteen state where the spread of these diseases are all Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates, which ranked 9. ratios also show that the Western countries have very low rates compared with the Arab world, and this may be due to marriages between relatives, which is common in the Arab world, where one out of every two marriages in the UAE are between cousins ​​or of the same family. Noted Dr. Ghazi to genetic diseases negative impact on the economy due to the fact they are inherently chronic require to deal with them on a permanent basis for life and have no definitive treatment; and exacerbated by the effects of such spontaneous abortion and the death of the newborn and the prevalence of the disease and mortality in children and adults, and stay in hospitals for longer periods and undergo a greater number of surgical operations and pay the high total cost of travel to distant places in order to get the best treatment. Dr. Ghazi said that the ad hoc genetic diseases in the Arab world, the annual treatment costs have reached $ 13 billion.

Dr. Ghazi said that the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, aims to alleviate human suffering resulting from genetic diseases in the Arab world; it was crystallized in the establishment of the Arab Centre for Genetic Studies to characterize and prevent genetic disorders and change the appearance of future practice health care in the region.

The center opened in June 25, 2003 by His Excellency Hamad Abdul Rahman Al Cannon, Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Award, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences in Genetic Center at Al Wasl Hospital. At present, there are the offices of the Arab Center for the Studies of genetic inside of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences in Dubai, United Arab Emirates Award building.

Dr. Ghazi added that the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies comprises of two DFA: Executive Board of the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies consists of a number of local scientists governing body of the legal guardian and represents all the activities of the center. Centre for Arab Genomic Studies Council includes a number of scientists from the region and facilitates the exchange of information on genetic disorders that occur in the Arab countries. Centre for Arab Genomic Studies aims to expand its membership in the future to include a large group of scientists as well as other Arab countries, adding that some of the priority of the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies goals is to educate professionals and the public alike about the significant impact of genetic diseases in the Arab world and the ways and benefits of genetic diagnosis Early.  

Dr. Ghazi said that the most common disorders include anencephaly, breast cancer, diabetes and Down syndrome and neural tube defects, and spoke these diseases due to exposure to radiation and environmental disturbances aberrations, adding that there are diseases that are not spread widely, but are limited to this region like syndrome Fadel syndrome Ghazali syndrome carbonated.

Dr. Ghazi said that the statistics have shown a variety of diseases when it comes to the United Arab Emirates by comparing, Bahrain and Oman; number of genetic diseases that are found in these countries together was 451 but 30 of them only common, including 119 disease registered on the list of deadly diseases.

Dr. Ghazi said he often represented no problem in non-compliance, where patients refuses to adhere to the recommendations of the doctor, leading to a decrease in the effectiveness of treatment methods and a financial burden on society due to increased emergency visits for health care and hospitalization or hospital stay. Dr. Ghazi added that some parents do not adhere to the treatment of their children's choices and ignore medical advice and seek to seek help from traditional healers, leading to serious consequences. Sometimes the patient lacks the patience and some refuse treatment strategies or perform surgery.

He concluded his speech by Dr. Ghazi that the cause of non-compliance in the Arab world is the result of the low ability to read and write standard, may have a false assumption that patients with genetic counselors will give them advice on specific issues (such as choosing a marriage partner or reproductive choices). Dr. Ghazi also stated that it the responsibility of the entire community that the compact ranks and trying to reduce the spread of genetic diseases by spreading awareness and funds raised and address the issue of genetics and genetic diseases in schools.
